On January 12, 2018, it was reported that NBC had given the production an official pilot order. It was further reported that Horton was expected to direct the pilot episode.[95] On May 4, 2018, it was announced that NBC had given the production a series order. It was also reported that Pico Creek Productions and Mount Moriah Productions would serve as additional production companies.[96][97][98] On October 10, 2018, it was announced that NBC had ordered an additional nine episodes of the series, bringing the first season total up to twenty-two episodes.[99] On February 4, 2019, it was announced during the Television Critics Association's annual winter press tour that the series had been renewed for a second season.[100] In January 2020, NBC renewed New Amsterdam for a third, fourth, and fifth season.[101] On March 14, 2022, it was announced that the series would end after its fifth season, which consisted of 13 episodes.[102]
In February 2018, it was announced that Freema Agyeman, Anupam Kher, Janet Montgomery, and Tyler Labine had been cast in lead roles in the pilot.[103][104][105] In March 2018, it was reported that Ryan Eggold and Jocko Sims had also joined the main cast.[106][107] On September 26, 2018, it was announced that Margot Bingham had joined the cast in a recurring role.[108] On November 6, 2018, it was reported that Sendhil Ramamurthy had been cast in a recurring role.[109] On April 19, 2021, it was reported that Frances Turner had been cast in a recurring role for the third season.[110] In August 2021, it was announced that Michelle Forbes, Sandra Mae Frank, and Chloe Freeman, were cast in recurring roles for the fourth season.[3][111] In May 2022, Frank was promoted to series regular for the fifth and final season.[112]
The second season's eighteenth episode, "Our Doors Are Always Open" (originally titled "Pandemic"), that was scheduled to air on April 7, 2020,[118][119] was shelved by NBC, as its subject matter (dealing with a flu pandemic in New York City) was considered sensitive due to the severity of the COVID-19 pandemic in New York state. Schulner felt that "the world needs a lot less fiction right now, and a lot more facts". The final episode completed before the suspension of production would be designated as the season finale, and aired on April 14.[119] The third season premiered on March 2, 2021.[120] The fourth season premiered on September 21, 2021.[121] The fifth and final season premiered on September 20, 2022.[122] The series finale aired on January 17, 2023.[123]

Many people watched New Amsterdam weekly on NBC, but a whole new set of streamers were introduced to the show when it debuted earlier this month on Netflix. The first two seasons of New Amsterdam are now available on the streamer, which has many cord-cutters wondering when Season 3 will make its Netflix debut. Thankfully, we have an answer.
The third season of NBC's medical drama series New Amsterdam was renewed on January 11, 2020. The season was premiered on March 2 and has concluded on June 8, 2021. It airs on Tuesdays at 10:00 PM on NBC. It consists of 14 episodes.
One of the best aspects of the season thus far is Max faces long-standing, systemic issues beyond his depth that aren't solvable in 45 minutes or less. It's OK not having all the answers or a quick solution or fix.
I cannot lavish enough praise onto Tyler Labine, who is easily the MVP of the season. It feels redundant gushing this much, but the series is allowing this storyline to breathe and flow naturally at its own pace.
Created by David Schulner, the medical drama series is a must-watch on Netflix and stars Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, and Freema Agyeman. Its fifth and final season is currently airing on NBC, with it set to conclude on January 17th, 2023.
The addition of seasons 1-2 now brings the United States on par with several other Netflix regions. Per Unogs, Netflix now carries the global distribution rights (with Netflix UK being a key exception) to New Amsterdam.
The trailer will make you emotional. NBC dropped a trailer for the season in early February and it showcases just how trying the upcoming season is going to be for Max and his staff. The trailer also teases that not everyone is going to make it through this trial. Have tissues nearby when you watch!
We'll see that pandemic episode at some point: This was alluded to in Ryan Eggold's opening sequence at the beginning of the last episode of the season, "Matter of Seconds." How that pandemic episode will factor into the next season isn't clear yet.
The series first made its premiere on NBC in September 2018 and came to an end in January 2023 with its fifth and final season. New Amsterdam nabbed a three-season renewal back in January 2020, which culminated in the remainder of the series.
Thankfully, we have some exciting news to share about the streaming home of New Amsterdam season 3 (and potentially season 4). Fans have some options when it comes to taking the next steps in their binge-watch, or re-watch, of the beloved series.
New Amsterdam moved to a 9 p.m. timeslot vacated by This Is Us at the end of March to finish its second season. Production on Season 3 had been delayed because of Covid-19 and related production shutdowns, and the series additionally had to build new sets.
Joining NBC's 2018 network TV lineup, New Amsterdam found itself in heated competition with other shows of its genre, such as Grey's Anatomy and The Resident. Unlike similar long-running procedural shows, the series faced nary a character exit or major character death, save for Dr. Vijay Kapoor (Anupam Kher), the head of Neurology whose actor left the series after season 3 to focus on his wife's health. New Amsterdam was refreshingly unique in the world of medical dramas, depicting wider storylines dealing with things like the hospital's medical debt and the influence of the state on the facility itself. Unfortunately, these offerings were not enough to keep the show going.
Unfortunately, poor ratings were responsible for the cancellation of season 6, with New Amsterdam season 5 hitting Netflix at an unspecified time and acting as the final installment. New Amsterdam was comfortably set in NBC's Tuesday night 10 p.m. EST time slot for all of its run and premiered its pilot episode to about 14 million viewers, including DVR recordings, with a rating of 1.8. The 1.8 steadily dropped over New Amsterdam season 1, ending at a 0.9 for the season 1 finale. Over the course of New Amsterdam seasons 1-5, both ratings and viewership on the network continued to dwindle.
The New Amsterdam series finale only brought in 5.2 million viewers, a far cry from the original 14 million, and its rating plummeted to an abysmal 0.3. The show simply couldn't compete with the likes of Grey's Anatomy, which has three spinoffs in the making, or The Resident, which has maintained its rating of around 1.0 across its six seasons despite time slot changes. Therefore, it was announced during the New Amsterdam season 4 mid-season break that season 5 would, unfortunately, be the show's last. If there was any indication before this, the seasons' oscillating episode counts might have been a clue.
New Amsterdam season 2 had an episode pulled from its lineup in March 2020, further shortening the season, as it depicted an influenza outbreak that was scarily similar to the real-life pandemic. The episode was never aired, as series creator David Schulner said, "The world needs a lot less fiction right now, and a lot more facts" (via Deadline). New Amsterdam is one of the many shows ending in 2023, and there were a lot of factors that led up to this point. However, the glaring problem was really the show's ratings and viewership numbers, which were on a steady decline from season 2 onward.
When studios across America closed earlier this year due to the novel coronavirus epidemic, New Amsterdam Season 2 had 19 of its episodes filmed. However, when one of those was deemed "too horrifying" in our current climate, the decision was made not to air it. This means that the April 14 episode of the NBC show will serve as the season finale.
Hewitt, for those who didn't recognize the name popping up on their screens Monday, was a stunt coordinator who worked in film and television. He worked on 14 movies from the Coen Brothers, including The Big Lebowski and No Country for Old Men. On TV, he worked on every episode of the original Law & Order and 22 seasons of Law & Order: SVU. Hewitt also worked on 14 episodes of New Amsterdam.
NBC's medical drama, which was renewed through season 5 last January, returns for another year of medical mysteries. But this time, the doctors at New Amsterdam Medical Center will be taking on COVID-19.
A recently released trailer hinted at a potential new romance between Shin (Daniel Dae Kim) and Sharpe (Agyeman), and the possibility that one of their own, Kapoor (Kher) may not survive the season as he lies in a hospital bed unconscious, on a vent and with major damage to his heart.
In a promo trailer for the upcoming season three episode, Things Fall Apart, a clip of Dr Helen Sharpe cradling medical director Dr Max Goodwin has led fans to believe that a romance between the two will finally be on the cards. 041b061a72
