Sanderson papers at the National Archives are an archive of communication between embassies and headquarters, and are thus of limited interest. His diary was published as a text of his activities as an intelligence officer; it is, as yet, incomplete.
The end of the Burgess/MacLean angle means the book concentrates on the activities of the Cambridge Ring. As with the behaviour of the Vassiliev documents, I have no intention of spending long on this part of the book, or even saying anything very much, other than that the bulk of the work consists of a fascinating array of unrelated incidents, observations and deductions about the Cambridge Ring. The one thing I would add is that, because of the relative innocuousness of these men, it is the questions of motive that really interest me. As I have already remarked, and this is the same in this case, the code word of the Cambridge Ring was Old Boy, and since the other members of the Cambridge Group are mentioned by name, they are excluded from this.
